Book Fair Needs Volunteers!

📚 📚  ALL IT TAKES IS TWO!  📚 📚

Two hours, that is. We need volunteers during our Book Fair next week! The Book Fair is our biggest fundraiser and one of Dowell students’ favorite activities! We don’t want to reduce operating hours due to a lack of volunteers. Please consider signing up for a two-hour shift any day next week. Thank you!

Welcome to the 2018-19 School Year!

If this is your first year at Dowell Elementary, the Parent Teacher Association (PTA) extends a very warm welcome to each of you. If you are a seasoned Dowell family, we hope you are as excited as we are to return to school and reunite with our Dowell Dolphin community!

As you start the year, remember that PTA’s main focus is the children of our school and community. With that in mind, I encourage each and every one of you to join PTA and become a part of our team. The number one reason to join PTA is to benefit the children. But there are many more advantages:

  • By becoming a PTA member, you’ll be demonstrating to your child the importance you place on education.
  • By volunteering with your PTA, you gain valuable experiences and personal confidence. It’s an opportunity to put your skills and hobbies to good use, for a good cause.
  • By getting involved, you’ll be part of the solution, helping to make positive change.
  • PTA functions provide opportunities to meet other parents and teachers.
  • The PTA is a forum for exchanging ideas; please attend the PTA meetings throughout the year to make suggestions and provide your input.

As your PTA president this year, I am looking forward to strengthening our working partnership with Cobb County Schools, the Dowell administration, our amazing teachers and invaluable staff to provide an excellent learning experience for our children.

Each year, Dowell PTA invests time, energy and money on programs and events that enhance our children’s experiences at school. Our perennial goal is to grow in membership and participation in order to add more to the programs, events, and other needs of our school. Your membership goes a long way in helping us meet our goals. If you want to learn more about the workings of PTA, suggest ideas or offer help in any way, please contact us.

Wishing your family an incredible year!

PTA 3rd General Meeting / Weds., May 2nd

PTA 3RD GENERAL MEETING
Wednesday, May 2nd / 2:45 PM
Dowell Elementary Media Center

Due to the cancellation of the Dowell Talent Show, our PTA 3rd General Meeting cannot take place on the night of May 2. After speaking with Principal Dinizio, the best way to ensure quorum in order to conduct business would be to hold the meeting during the Staff Meeting already scheduled that same day.

So please plan to attend this important 3rd General Meeting on Wednesday, May 2, at 2:45 pm. At this meeting we will elect a new Board for the 2018-19 school year. As we mentioned in the monthly newsletter sent out earlier this week, we are in great need of parents — Moms AND Dads, Grandparents, anyone with a vested interest in a child attending Dowell — to help be a part of the PTA.

Working Parents: You are a valuable resource as well, so don’t count yourselves out! Many of our current Board members have jobs, so we understand the importance of time management. There are many ways for you to get involved outside of typical school/office hours. Don’t hesitate to ask questions and learn more.

We have many activities and programs in place, and the more people that help, the less of a time constraint and workload it is on everyone. Here are just a few of the ways anyone can get involved:

  • Serve as an Executive Board Member. (We especially need a Secretary for 2018-19!)
  • Have a special interest or talent? Serve as a Committee Chair.
  • Share a love of reading with our students during the Book Fair.
  • Help our students select and purchase gifts during the Holiday Shop.
  • Plan and coordinate special events, such as Breakfast with Santa, Winter Dance and Spring Carnival.
  • Keep our website and social media channels up-to-date and relevant.
  • Help coordinate the Reflections Art Contest which recognizes students for their creativity.

If you have an interest in being part of the Dowell PTA Board, please contact us ASAP at dowellpta@gmail.com or download and fill out this Volunteer Interests form.

Thank you!

Don’t End the Year Without a Yearbook!

Don’t have FOMO on the yearbook! The 2017-18 yearbooks are in and will be distributed over the next two weeks to those who have pre-ordered, starting with 5th grade. (Remember, if you purchased a PTA Dive Pack membership, a yearbook is included.)

There will also be several opportunities between now and the end of school to buy a yearbook. Your first chance will be next week, Weds., May 2- Fri., May 4, before school in the lobby. The cost is $30, cash or check (payable to Dowell PTA). Credit cards will be accepted with a $2 fee.

But bypass those lines! Fill out this form and submit payment to the PTA mailbox by Tues., May 1 to have your student’s yearbook delivered delivered to his/her classroom.
