PTA 3RD GENERAL MEETING

Due to the cancellation of the Dowell Talent Show, our PTA 3rd General Meeting cannot take place on the night of May 2. After speaking with Principal Dinizio, the best way to ensure quorum in order to conduct business would be to hold the meeting during the Staff Meeting already scheduled that same day.
So please plan to attend this important 3rd General Meeting on Wednesday, May 2, at 2:45 pm. At this meeting we will elect a new Board for the 2018-19 school year. As we mentioned in the monthly newsletter sent out earlier this week, we are in great need of parents — Moms AND Dads, Grandparents, anyone with a vested interest in a child attending Dowell — to help be a part of the PTA.
Working Parents: You are a valuable resource as well, so don’t count yourselves out! Many of our current Board members have jobs, so we understand the importance of time management. There are many ways for you to get involved outside of typical school/office hours. Don’t hesitate to ask questions and learn more.
We have many activities and programs in place, and the more people that help, the less of a time constraint and workload it is on everyone. Here are just a few of the ways anyone can get involved:
- Serve as an Executive Board Member. (We especially need a Secretary for 2018-19!)
- Have a special interest or talent? Serve as a Committee Chair.
- Share a love of reading with our students during the Book Fair.
- Help our students select and purchase gifts during the Holiday Shop.
- Plan and coordinate special events, such as Breakfast with Santa, Winter Dance and Spring Carnival.
- Keep our website and social media channels up-to-date and relevant.
- Help coordinate the Reflections Art Contest which recognizes students for their creativity.

Don’t have FOMO on the yearbook! The 2017-18 yearbooks are in and will be distributed over the next two weeks to those who have pre-ordered, starting with 5th grade. (Remember, if you purchased a PTA Dive Pack membership, a yearbook is included.)
There will also be several opportunities between now and the end of school to buy a yearbook. Your first chance will be next week, Weds., May 2- Fri., May 4, before school in the lobby. The cost is $30, cash or check (payable to Dowell PTA). Credit cards will be accepted with a $2 fee.
But bypass those lines! Fill out this form and submit payment to the PTA mailbox by Tues., May 1 to have your student’s yearbook delivered delivered to his/her classroom.

Yeah, just as our pets beg us for treats, attention, etc. … we’re having to do the same!
We are in great need of volunteers to help with our “Paws for Books” Book Fair next week! We particularly need people in the mornings, from 7:00 to 9:00. If you can donate some time, please click here to sign up!
If we are short on volunteers, unfortunately we may have to limit our operating hours. All Book Fair purchases benefit our school, so limited hours hurts the bottom line and reduces the amount of money our school receives.
Shifts are mostly 2 hours, with a couple of 3-hour shifts needed. Volunteers who work a total of 5 hours get $5 in Scholastic money to spend at the fair.

On Saturday, December 9th, join us from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m. for a breakfast with the Jolly Ol’ Elf himself! A Chick-fil-A breakfast of Chicken Minis or a Chicken biscuit, fruit, and a drink will be available for $8.00. We are not taking pre-orders, so breakfast is first-come, first-served! Photos with Santa are $2.00.

Parents, our Holiday Shop is rapidly approaching! The PTA will conduct a brief business meeting next Wednesday, November 15th at 2:45 p.m. in the Dowell Media Center. As PTA members, you are invited to attend. We will be presenting and voting on additions/updates to the 2017-18 PTA budget.
